To enable rapid information sharing during the FMD outbreak, RMIS has activated a real-time communication system through the RMIS Traceability Platform. Registered stakeholders, including farms, communal landholders, auction houses, feedlots, abattoirs, testing stations, meat processors, and veterinary practices, will receive concise WhatsApp alerts as soon as new information becomes available.

These alerts include urgent disease notifications, regulatory changes, official statements, and operational updates. While notifications are issued nationally, detailed context will also be provided at provincial and incident-specific levels to ensure relevance and clarity.

Open Access for All Stakeholders

To ensure transparency and broad access to information, RMIS makes all Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) updates publicly available here: https://rmis.co.za/fmd-updates/. Thiscentralised page will host the same information shared via WhatsApp alerts. However, stakeholders who are not registered on the RMIS Platform will not receive instant notifications and will need to visit the website regularly to stay updated.

Visual Outbreak Tracking Now Available via RMIS Traceability Platform

In addition, the geographic radius around confirmed FMD cases is now publicly visible via the RMIS Traceability Platform, without disclosing specific farm or farmer information. To view these, visit https://rmis.co.za/rmis-traceability-platform/ and toggle to the “Incidents” view. This provides a visual representation of outbreak locations and enhances situational awareness across the country, even for those not yet registered on the platform.
