Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Update: Four Provinces Declared Free from Foot and Mouth Disease

The Department of Agriculture today announced that the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreaks in the North West, Free State, Gauteng, and Mpumalanga provinces have been successfully resolved.

However, parts of the Eastern Cape, including the Humansdorp area, remain under quarantine, with 37 farms confirmed positive for FMD. To prevent further spread, additional farms have been vaccinated, and strict biosecurity measures are in place. The Department urges compliance with these measures to ensure the disease is contained.
