Latest Update on Foot and Mouth Disease in KwaZulu-Natal

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development has confirmed ongoing outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in KwaZulu-Natal. Positive cases have been detected in cattle at dip tanks in Mtubatuba, Vryheid, and Newcastle. The presence of both SAT1 and SAT2 virus strains underscores the persistent risk of FMD in the region. Control measures, including quarantine and vaccination, remain in place to contain the spread. Farmers and livestock owners are urged to comply with biosecurity protocols and report any suspected cases.
